Music Turns Season Around After Tough Opening Segment

CONCORD, North Carolina (June 22, 2026) – Even though Ryley Music has experienced on-track struggles during the first segment of competition in this year’s Kulwicki Driver Development Program, recent changes in his program have brought an optimistic outlook for the season’s remainder.

One of two KDDP finalists from Virginia, Music is currently fifth in the standings.

“We have struggled tremendously in our first stretch of the season,” Music said. “We have been trying a new motor package along with a car that was new to us, and it has not been as good.”

Music recently returned to his old motor package and car and found speed immediately. The Norfolk, Va., resident has yet to claim a victory in 11 races this year, but he has recorded one top-5 and seven top-10 finishes.

“Our biggest on-track moment was a top 10 qualifying effort with the CARS Tour,” Music said. “It made me, along with our whole crew, realize we are still capable of being strong among the big teams.”

In that respect, Music said participating in KDDP has made him realize the similarities between 1992 NASCAR Cup champion Alan Kulwicki and himself.

“It (KDDP) made me realize that I’m doing everything the right way to have success,” Music said. “It opens your eyes on all the little things you need to improve on that you don’t really think about.”

Off track, Music works with two charities that he describes as “very neat and different in their own ways.” One Matters Inc. assists veterans who have been struggling to find homes. In July, Music will be involved in a car show fundraiser for that non-profit organization. He also works with Mission Christmas and will start his toy drive for that organization in July.

On track, Music’s competition schedule includes the June 27 The Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200 at South Boston Speedway and the July 25 Hampton Heat 200 at Langley Speedway. The races are the first two events in the Virginia Late Model Triple Crown.

This year, members of Alan Kulwicki’s championship team and veteran drivers are mentoring the “Underbirds.” Music’s mentor is veteran driver Ken Schrader.

The driver occupying fourth in the standings after the first segment will be announced Tuesday.
