Cal Lawson is currently finishing out his career in manufacturing after decades of working for the automotive industry. Three months after he initially moved to the Charlotte area, Cal struck up a close friendship with Alan Kulwicki and they quickly became like family. For years they traveled and worked together, Cal aiding Alan on the business-end of his team. Some time after KDDP was initially founded in Alan’s memory, Cal was asked to act as Vice President. He is currently an active board member and sees himself as a sounding board for other members and a mentor for the drivers. He enjoys following a personal approach to mentorship as a way to impart Alan’s philosophies and driven attitude within the newer generation of drivers. He believes in pushing a strong mentality and dedication and says about his commitment to KDDP: “It’s really all about what we have accomplished. I want to preserve the legacy of not only Alan, but all the people that made it happen.” In his free time, Cal loves attending JMU basketball games and has season tickets.
