Miller Turns Lemons Into Lemonade During Kulwicki Driver Development Program’s Second Segment
CONCORD, North Carolina (August 29, 2025) – Wisconsin native Bryce Miller overcame problems in half of his six races during the Kulwicki Driver Development Program’s second segment by focusing on his community projects. One of his six races was rained out while his car experienced engine failure in two others. After one of his engines blew up in practice, instead of heading home Miller took his car to the front of the track so children could sit in it while he signed autographs.
“It reminded me of the story about Alan Kulwicki when he didn’t qualify for the Daytona 500,” said Miller, who sits second in the Kulwicki Driver Development Program’s standings. “He stayed and had an autograph session.”
During the second segment, Miller also started a podcast that features people who had a connection to Kulwicki. His first guest was Geoff Bodine, who purchased Kulwicki’s team after the 1992 NASCAR Cup champion’s fatal plane crash.
While at Hawkeye Downs Speedway & Expo Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Miller hosted students from Kenwood Leadership Academy, purchasing their race tickets for them and then providing them with a hot dog, a bag of chips, a soda and a gift bag that included a checkered flag and a T-shirt. He also gave them headsets so they could listen to the drivers. Meno, who has a brittle bone disease, was made a member of Miller’s pit crew.
Miller spent one morning with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dane County, showing them his race car, allowing them to sit in it, and sharing doughnuts and milk with them while he talked with them about Kulwicki’s legacy and the KDDP program. At Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Illinois, Miller continued his driver development program, which he described as very rewarding.
This year, members of Kulwicki’s 1992 NASCAR Cup championship team are mentoring the five “Underbirds.” Miller’s mentor is Danny Cameron.
